NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Following is a calendar for fine and performing arts events in December at North Central College:

Nov. 3 – Dec. 31 Art Exhibit: North Central College showcases “Exploration 2019” by the Chicago Calligraphy Collective (CCC) in the Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. which is the 32nd annual juried exhibition. Some of the finest calligraphy and lettering art in the nation were selected. This show invites all who are interested to learn more about the art of beautiful writing. Nov. 15 – Jan. 12 Art Exhibit: North Central College showcases “Precipice” by Zelene Schlosberg in the Schoenherr Gallery in the Wentz Concert Hall & Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. On the verge, between and betwixt: the quality of potential energy animates the works in this exhibition. Schlosberg works in a variety of genres with a pared down yet provocative aesthetic that draws from a wide variety of influences from East and West, ancient and contemporary. Dec. 6 Music: North Central College presents the 7th Annual Jazz Faculty Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The concert will feature a collection of well-known holiday favorites with a jazz twist performed by the College’s internationally-acclaimed jazz faculty. The faculty artists include vocalist Janice Borla, saxophonist Mitch Paliga, trumpeter Art Davis, trombonist Tim Coffman, vibraphonist Brad Stirtz, pianist Chris White, bassist Kelly Sill and drummer Jack Mouse. Dec. 7 – 8 Music: North Central College welcomes the Naperville Chorus as they present “Another Swingin’ Christmas with the Pete Ellman Big Band” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, in Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The Naperville Chorus is pleased to partner with Toys for Tots for this event, and they invite patrons to please help make this a very special holiday for someone in need by bringing an unwrapped gift to the concert. Dec. 8 Music: North Central College presents The Texas Tenors “Deep in the Heart of Christmas” at 7 p.m. in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. This event is partially funded by the Special Events & Cultural Amenities Fund as part of the “Home for the Holidays” promotion between North Central College Fine & Performing Arts and Naperville restaurant partners. With their Emmy Award winning PBS special now airing across the country and Billboard chart topping albums, it's easy to see why The Texas Tenors are America's favorite new tenors. Since their whirlwind debut six years ago on NBC's “America's Got Talent,” The Texas Tenors have accumulated a long list of awards, accolades and excited fans. They have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, including a 24-city tour in the United Kingdom, Shanghai, China and collaborations with some of the most prestigious symphonies in the US. They use breathtaking vocals, humor and a touch of cowboy charm to create an unforgettable live show. Other notable performances have included NBA games, the PBR World Championships in Las Vegas and a variety of charity events. Dec. 14 Music: North Central College presents Robin Spielberg’s “Spirit of the Holidays Sing-A-Long” on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Join Spielberg in a concert that incorporates the joy of the season with sing-a-longs, meaningful reflection, fun stories and concert films. Perfect for the entire family, you will leave feeling uplifted and in the spirit of the season! Spielberg is one of America's most beloved pianist/composers. With an impressive tour schedule and 18 recordings, this Steinway Artist has been winning the hearts of listeners around the world with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique since debuting her first recording of original solos for piano, "Heal of the Hand." This evening will include Spielberg's gorgeous arrangements for the season, from traditional Christmas carols to winter favorites, as well as tales from the bench that uplift and inspire. Special guests include the Lincoln Junior High Varsity Choir directed by Ross Berkley. Dec. 14 Music: North Central College presents Canadian Brass on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. With an international reputation as one of the most popular brass ensembles today, Canadian Brass has truly earned the distinction of "the world's most famous brass group." The varied Canadian Brass repertoire features brass standards as well as a wide-ranging library of original arrangements. These include the works of Renaissance and Baroque masters, Classical works, marches, holiday favorites, ragtime, Dixieland, Latin, jazz, big band, Broadway and Christian music, as well as popular songs and standards. With four decades under their belts, Canadian Brass continues to thrill audiences around the world. Canadian Brass is: founding member Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Christopher Coletti and Caleb Hudson (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone) and Jeff Nelsen (horn). Dec. 15 Music: North Central College welcomes the DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO) “‘Tis the Season” on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The DSO's annual holiday concert includes a distinctive constellation of Christmas and seasonal works, both familiar and unusual: Edward German's "Christmastide" from "The Seasons," Rimsky-Korsakov's "Christmas Eve Polonaise," Ottorino Respighi's "Adoration of the Magi," and much, much more. Be on the lookout for a special holiday visitor again this year. After all, what would Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" be without Santa on the podium?
