Bob Schillerstrom, chairman of the Illinois Tollway Board of Directors, will discuss how the Tollway is using technology and innovation to deliver customer-focused solutions that address current and future transportation needs, stimulate economic development and create jobs throughout the region served by the 292-mile Tollway system. He will highlight how the agency is using technology to deliver significant infrastructure improvements, including the new Illinois Route 390 Tollway, the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project, as well as planned improvements on the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
John Zediker will talk about Metra’s daily operations and the challenges it faces in providing its service in the wake of funding challenges at the state and federal level. Metra provides passenger train service to millions of customers on an annual basis in one of the most active freight and passenger railroad terminals in the world. Metra is funded by passenger fares for only 50% of its operating cost. The balance of its operating costs and nearly all of its capital projects are funded by federal, state and local sources.
