Part 1: For/Against SB 16 (Education Funding Cuts)
Join us for a panel discussion for our two part series on SB 16 (Education Funding Cuts). As Chamber President & CEO, Nicki Anderson wrote in the Current, Naperville schools stand to lose over $35 million and DuPage County as a whole will lose $140 million under the current legislation. If the state cuts the budget of our schools, that money will have to come from somewhere.
We will have representation from various sides of the discussion represented during Part 1: For/Against SB 16. Our panelists include: State Representative Ron Sandack, Dan Bridges - Superintendent District 203, Dr. Karen Sullivan - Superintendent District 204, Stand for Children Illinois and State Senator Linda Holmes.
The purpose of this first panel is to better understand the topic of education funding (actual vs equitable) and to learn more about the current legislation’s genesis in hierarchy of funding cuts. This is a vital conversation for the business community because the Naperville area schools are the highest funding cut schools in the state and some legislators have argued that the additional funding needed for schools will need to come from increased local taxes.
We strongly encourage you to attend this meeting – SB 16’s impact on the business community will be significant.
