In the observance of Veteran’s Day the November Legislative Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 13, instead of Monday. We encourage all business to keep our veterans and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

Meeting Discussion Topics:

Naperville Electric Rate Changes

The City of Naperville will discuss proposed adjustments to the pricing structure for its electric utility. Electric rates affect every business, especially manufactures, large office users and research and technology companies, who call Naperville home and provide thousands of jobs in our community.

The City has completed a rate study and is in the process of discussing changes in the rate structure. This will be an informative and interactive discussion.

The Veto Session Countdown

With the election over, the General Assembly will return to finish legislative business later this year during veto session. Suburban interests and property owners need to remain vigilant and educated about the long-term ramifications of a pension cost-shift to local tax bodies.

Based on the last available data and cost estimates, the Chamber calculated that this would result in Districts 203 and 204 assuming $610 million in funding obligations through FY 2045.

The Chamber supports pension reform, but remains vehemently opposed to the cost-shift only approach. District 203 and 204 taxpayers provided $3.7 billion in local tax support for our schools between 2000 and 2010, while receiving only 13 percent funding from the state.

Piling additional burdens and responsibilities on to our businesses and residents will not reduce the unfunded liabilities in the pension system, or encourage the General Assembly to live within its fiscal means.

The election is over and what do the results mean for our region and representation? We’ll provide a brief summary and recap of the election.

The Tuesday, Nov. 13 meeting will take place in Meeting Room A of the Chamber’s offices in downtown Naperville in the Main Street Promenade, 55 S. Main Street.

The meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided.
