There are a few logistical changes in store Mayor A. George Pradel’s annual State City Address to the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce in 2011. This year’s keynote will be delivered over breakfast and held at Tellabs, 1415 W. Diehl Diehl Road in Naperville, from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011. Previously the address had been delivered at the Chamber’s January General Membership Luncheon.
“While a few of the logistics will change, the venue change reinforces the message that Naperville is a great place to start, expand, or grow a business of any size or industry,” said John Schmitt, President & CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.
In an ironic twist, the Chamber needed a new home for the keynote in part, because of the recovering regional economy. The new owners of the Holiday Inn Select, where the speech had been hosted for several years, decided the conditions were right to undergo a massive renovation and expansion project in 2011, making the space unavailable.
“The Mayor’s address will be delivered in one of our community’s major employers and a global leader in innovation,” continued Schmitt. “I want to thank Tellabs for offering their wonderful facility and welcoming the Mayor, the Chamber and community.”
The breakfast will be held the Monday morning after the Chamber’s Inaugural Gala, themed Bouncing Back. At the Gala the Chamber will celebrate community achievements over the past year that have got Naperville and the region’s economy growing again, and the Mayor’s speech on Monday will provide an entertaining look at the past twelve months and a look forward to a more prosperous time. The State of the City Address is sponsored by Harris N.A.
“This past year the Mayor and Council demonstrated leadership and took actions that enhance the business climate in Naperville. They have encouraged business expansion, held the line on taxes, and trimmed budgets, all while keeping their commitment to delivering great service all the time,” concluded Schmitt.
The Chamber's monthly General Membership Luncheon is an opportunity to network with hundreds of fellow Chamber Members and for hearing discussion on topics of interest to the business community. Previous presenters include United States National Security Advisor James L. Jones, motivational expert Steve Beck, former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, US Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Thomas
Donohue, noted futurist Rebecca Ryan, and Naperville Mayor, A. George Pradel who presented the annual State of the City address.
