Illinois education is at a crossroads. School districts across Illinois, including our local districts are being stretched and challenged by the budget disaster in Springfield. However, Illinois' school system has been in a state of decline before the budget crunch. In addition to hearing progress reports progress reports from Mark Mitrovich and Kathy Birkett, Superintendents of Districts 203 and 204, the Chamber is pleased to welcome Robin Steans, Executive Director of Advance
Illinois to keynote our April 26 General Membership Luncheon.
As business leaders, it is important that we seek to understand the challenges and reforms that will create a school system that produces students capable of competing in the rigors of the 21st century. The economic competitiveness of all of Illinois is affected by the quality and skills of graduating high school students. Currently, just 1 in 4 students graduating from Illinois' high schools are prepared for college or the challenges of the workforce. For Illinois' economy to grow in a global economy, that trend
must be reversed.
A landmark report issued by Advance Illinois, "We Can Do Better," listed a series of suggested reforms that Illinois could adopt as a state to improve the efficacy of the system and increase results for our students. As an engaged community leader you hold the power in determining the course of the future of public education in Illinois. Attend the luncheon from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Select Naperville,
1801 N. Naper Blvd. and become an educated advocate on behalf of positive reform for Illinois' public education system. You can register for the luncheon by clicking here, or calling the Chamber at (630) 355-4141.
Remember you must register in advance if you are planning on using complimentary business connect luncheons included with your membership, per the Chamber's event registration policy.
