James P. Covert, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Institute For Transfusion Medicine (ITxM).
Jim Covert joined the Institute for Transfusion Medicine as the President and Chief Executive Officer in May, 2007. Mr. Covert has over 16 years of experience in healthcare sales, marketing and acquisition initiatives. Mr. Covert’s healthcare career began at Baxter International’s Physical Therapy Division, serving as Director of Sales and Development. In November of 1992 Baxter spun out the alternate site business called Caremark into an independent publicly traded company. Mr. Covert then served as
Vice President of Development for Caremark Physical Therapy from 1992 – 1995. Mr. Covert led all acquisition related activities at Caremark as well as the company’s Oncology Services Business. Mr. Covert expanded Caremark’s Physical Therapy presence from 50 to 127 sites in 14 states increasing revenue to over $120M. Caremark Physical Therapy was acquired by HealthSouth Corporation in1995 for $127.5 Million. Mr. Covert was then Senior Vice President of Development for Horizon/CMS Healthcare Corporation
from 1995-1998. At Horizon/CMS, Mr. Covert had responsibility for the merger and acquisition effort as well as all sales and marketing related initiatives. Mr. Covert led the growth effort for the Physical Therapy Division as they rapidly grew from 20 to over 200 sites in a 16 month time frame. Horizon/CMS was ultimately sold to HealthSouth Corporation in November 1998 for $1.7 Billion.
In 2000, Mr. Covert started Keystone Strategies, LLC a healthcare consulting group. Prior to joining ITxM, Mr. Covert was Sr.
Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Development for HealthSouth Corporation in
Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Covert joined HealthSouth in 2004 and had responsibility for all Sales and Marketing, Public Relations, Sports Medicine and acquisition initiatives for the Outpatient Therapy Division. Mr. Covert restructured and realigned the sales group increasing field based productivity by 30 percent, increasing EBITDA by $3.2 Million, and improved same store growth over 8 percent. HealthSouth’s Outpatient Division was acquired by Select Medical Corporation in April 2007 for $245 Million.

. Mr. Covert has also served as an All-Pro tackle and team captain for the Chicago Bears from 1983-1990.
